Day 360: Christmas Day

NieceWe always spend Christmas day at my parents. Around 11 a.m., my sister and her family shows up, and we all get to open presents together. Wahoo! Lately, we’ve developed the tradition of going in age order, with the youngest starting first. My poor mother always has to go last!

RockyMy parents’ dogs were both remarkably good about these ridiculous hats. They kept them on for quite a while!

Big NephewSmokey JonesSmokey Jones was not nearly excited about opening presents as I was. SistersMy oldest sister couldn’t be at Christmas this year so she Skyped in for opening presents. It was fun to have her there “via satellite,” as I kept saying. It was also hilarious because she kept changing into various hats while she was Skyping with us. At one point, she was wearing a sombrero. Hehe!

Day 324: Year in Review Video

So my 365 project is not quite over, but I decided the other day to make a video on it now, just for the heck of it. The video took me four days, which is kind of a lot compared to other projects, but it definitely shows the breadth of what I’ve done this year and, I must admit, makes me feel rather proud.

Day 274: Bibimbop with Seitan Bulgogi

Bibimbop with Seitan Bulgogi

Back on Sunday, September 30,  I made some absolutely delicious bibimbop using roughly this recipe from Maangchi, and accompanied it with seitan bulgogi. For the bulgogi, we bought the Upton’s brand seitan and then used this recipe from the Vegetarian Times for the bulgogi sauce.

I highly recommend this! So good!

Day 225: Eldorado

On Sunday, August 12, Jim and I made a big trek up to Devil’s Lake State Park in Wisconsin so we could do a little training for our Yosemite trip. We several hours going up and down one of the trails at the park so that we could practice going uphill wearing weighted packs, something you can’t do at all in Chicago. It was a tiring day, so to reward ourselves, we stopped off in Madison for dinner at the Eldorado Grill, where we were delighted with delicious food and a rather funny waiter.

That said, what I made that day was simply a picture of the restaurant’s awesome sign.

Day 223: Friends

Photo Booth FriendsOn Friday, I made a Facebook header using some photo booth pictures of me and some of my friends. It may be hard to tell, but start from the top left moving to the bottom right, we’re supposed to be progressing from angelic to evil. I’m not sure how well it worked except for the picture in the bottom right. I look so scary!
